Vancouver Day 4

First rain, so caught up on some work and headed out for breakfast as Sukhwinder was not feeling well. Got carried away and caught a bus into town to look at the inside of the library.  Forgot that most places would be closed for Thanksgiving. Got told off for stepping one step past a closed sign ☢️ However before that I managed to get off a couple of stops too early. I ended up in the real underbelly of Vancouver. It's good to be aware of what a place is really like, but I found it very upsetting and shocking after I had been experiencing the other Vancouver.  The swing bridge experience costs 70 dollars pp and there were hundreds of families there!

So it was all the more shocking to see drug addicts, many with bad physical disabilities, and people sloshing down alcohol. This went on for block after block after block. With people trying to keep dry with no shelter. God knows what it's like in winter.

I was told they get medical care. And shelter but they are not allowed to take their meagre possessions.  Their things are put in storage with no locks. Things get stolen. So most of them don't go.

They seem to take care of each other though and the bus drivers are good. They get free travel. But it shows how the drug and opiate problem is totally out of hand.  Especially fentanyl.  It's so tragically sad. 

The rest of the day I wandered around the main tourist centre at Canada Place then went home to sample Poutine. Hmmm
